Sjak : I was quite impressed by the second album 'Blind Fire' of the Finish outfit Leverage, even that much that it inspired me to go out and look for their debut album 'Tides' of 2006. After having found that album, it proved to be even better than 'Blind Fire' and that fact surprised me a little bit, since normally a band is growing continuously which also should result in better song material. Therefore I was quite curious to see if the follow-up album of 'Blind Fire', which is now to be found in the shops as 'Circus Colossus', was able to return to the quality level of the debut album. Well, after listening many times to the record the only thing I can do is conclude that the band have surpassed themselves, and as such also debut album 'Tides'.

After a bombastic intro entitled 'Rise' they explode with 'Wolf And The Moon', which showcases a much more mature Leverage. A lot of orchestration and bombastic elements, which now and then remind me of Nightwish, a beautiful melody and great vocals of Brother Firetribe singer Pekka Heino, these prove to be the most important assets of Leverage in the year 2009. The next song 'Movie Gods' starts off as a simple AC/DC alike rocker, but soon migrates into an epic melodic metal gem and is in my opinion one of the best songs of the album. Further highlights include 'Rider Of Storm', 'Legions Of The Invisible', 'Broken Wings' and 'Revelation', but as a matter of fact 'Circus Colossus' proves to be one big highlight. The keyboards of Marko Niskala are much more prominent than on the previous albums, contributing to the orchestral and bombastic aspect, but luckily there's still room enough for the fresh sounding guitar parts of Torsti Spoof.

Leverage has really positively surprised me with this third album and has all the ingredients in house to become one of the best bands within the bombastic melodic metal genre in the future.
